System Audio Capture for Mac

If you're like me, then you're constantly being invited to top secret phone meetings where highly sensitive (and valuable) information is being discussed. What the heck good is that top secret info if you can't capture, store, and share that information as proof over the internet and other digital devices? Well, I'll tell you, it's actually probably a lot better that way because you won't have to worry about breaking any laws. For those of you who still want to capture system audio on your Macintosh computer then check this tool out.

It's another great utility from Ambrosia Software, one of my favorite niche tool creators focused almost exclusively on developing for the Mac OS and OSX. If you are interested in other capture tools I've done a review of their screen image and video capture tool as well. So the audio tool that we're focused on in this review is called WireTap Studio and the name definitely fits! At $69 this tool comes at a high price, but it works oh so well and hey, when you're gathering evidence, recording an album, or trying to catch your room mate listening to Britney Spears on your computer then the price is definitely worth it!

Wire Tap Studio allows you to select any application on your computer (or multiple applications at once) and record the audio coming from them. You can even record through a microphone in tandem with system audio. The fun doesn't stop there, once you've got a file WireTap Studio also includes an audio editor that works really well! My Mac already has Garage Band, but it takes forever to load and is overly complicated for little tasks, so this mini-editor is super efficient and valuable for me. In addition, the editor includes the ability to fade in and out and determine the length of those fades all with the ease of a graphical slider at each end of the file. Once you've got the exact right recording, you've edited the raw file, and your ready to export, WireTap Studio lets you save the file in multiple formats (of course).

I've included a couple of screen shots below but you can also see the results of this recording tool on one of my websites, ABSTRACTmall where I'm helping a friend from a band called Love Campaign sell his new album. The three song previews were all recorded using Wire Tap Pro and feature fade in fade out editing using the basic editor tool included with Wire Tap.
